Ruby's First Pet

Yes Gus is a Pet, but he is not Ruby's Pet.  Yesterday while prepping the pumpkin patch we found a pet for Ruby.  The perfect pet for Ruby, you never have to feed it or give it water, you just put it in a cage with a bunch of dirt and no amount of shaking or dropping will kill it.  Her new pets are worms- earth worms.  I asked her what the name for the first one we found should be and at first she said named it "Auntie Ruthy".  Then she changed her mind, once we found two more little worms.  She named the biggest one mommy worm, and the two little ones- spiky and ducky.  The only rule is they have to stay outside.

I have a pretty funny video of her and her worm, unfortunately it was not the first encounter.  When I get to it I will upload it.

Garden 2nd Season

I have started my 2009 garden.  I spend about three hours pulling weeds.  about 4 hours tilling the soil, it was pretty hard, and then one hour at home depot buying a few plants and compost and two new tomato trellises.
And then finally with the help of my niece Eliza we mixed the compost in with the dirt, planted the seeds, stuck the labeled signs into the ground and watered.

Eliza was so cute.  She was so excited to plant the flowers.  It was cool that she was so into it and was actually apart of all the process, because on Wed when I watched her and porter we spent a good amount of time in the garden doing the weeding.

All that is left to do now is set up the watering system.  This years crop includes:
-Zucchini
-Butternut squash
- Cucumbers
- Snap peas
- Roma Tomatoes
- Bell Peppers
- Basil
- Green Onions
- Spinach
- Carrots
- Other Herbs
- Few Flowers

Easter

 Easter 2009 :
We decorated Eggs with Sarah, Finn, and Franco and hid plastic ones with candy  for them to find.  (Thur) on Friday we did the Primary Easter Egg Hunt.  It was so much fun and Ruby only cried a hand full of times- so I consider it a success.

I made Ruby and Lulu some easter Dresses for no other reason than I have fabric and sewing machines and no money- so it seemed like the obvious choice.  They turned out pretty cute.  I was nervous Ruby wouldn't want to wear her dress because I kept having her try it on while I was making it, to make sure it fit.  But she likes it just fine.

I spent most of the actually hunting for eggs part nursing Lulu.  It's all good thanks to this handy modest Momma (see Geela blog).

After church we did an easter Egg hunt at Ruth's house and then a big family dinner at the Schultz house.  It was so much fun and I was so happy my parents were able to make it out for all the fun times.

100th Post!!!

Happy 100th Post to me.  Apparently I have posted 99 posts prior to this one and that would make this one the 100th!  It is amazing to think that so much has gone on in my life since I started this little blog.  I have only written in my journal several times this past year and not because I was already journaling my life so far, because I lack the motivation to do it.  But this might just be for me- the motivation for me in blogging, is to keep my friends and family involved and up to date on my family's life.  I do not get out with friends as much as I used to so this is my outlet and my reaching out to you.

Most memorable blog posts for me:
- Documenting my first successful garden
- Documenting the last days of pregnancy
- Documenting my Gus mood swings
- Disneyland trips
- Visiting my sister Jessica in Georgia
- Venting posts
- Summer lake Powell, swimming, and reunions
- Germany trip

Many more memories to come

80's workout

So I am the First Councilor in Young Womens which means I get to plan out the mutuals on Wednesday.  This last Wednesday the girls wanted to do an 80's workout.  So I got a hold of a Jane Fonda Workout video from 1984.  The girls dressed up in 80's attire.  It was pretty amazing.  We were all working up a sweat

Do you see me?  I am on the left with the kitty cat shirt, and purple spandex pants (thanks Heather for the clothes)  A couple of the girls had to sit down for a sec cause the workout was so intense.  The athlete in me came out and encouraged them to keep going but just tone it down to their own pace.

Anyone see Sharla?  She is the Beehive advisor and pretty pregnant.  Due in 4 1/2 weeks.   She is in the back sitting down resting her poor pregnant body.

I was really surprised at how into the workout the girls got.  They even asked to borrow the video when we were all done.  Jane Fonda Knew her stuff.  I was sore for a couple days after.

Field Trips

Sarah and I have decided to do weekly field trips, and this week I search online to find some good ideas and I stumbled upon a sweet website that tells you all the free stuff going on in Orang County and one of them was this Big Balloon Park in Irvine. We went and checked it out and went for a free ride in the Hot Air Balloon. It was so much fun and all and all was a successful field-trip.

Here we are getting ready to check out the balloon before we commit to lifting off the ground
After checking it out and seeing it was pretty mellow we decided to board. Finn was pretty nervous at first, but after awhile got very brave and just wanted to look down to the ground the whole time.

It was very safe, totally enclosed, and slow to lift off and return to the ground.

Fun bike shaped bike rack. Check out the website sometime and take a free ride on the balloon.

My Baby could eat your baby

With a doctors appointment on Tuesday I learned my little baby is not so little. At two months she weighs 14lbs which is in the 100% and length is 23in. which is 75%. she got 3 shots and some cool soccer Band-Aids that Ruby was very jealous of. I am loving this chubby baby. Last night she slept 8 hours! Love her.

In other news look who loves her new big girl bed. Ruby feels so old reading books to LuLu and sharing her stuffed animals

Emiliana Torini

On Monday night my rad parents came over to watch the girls, and just in the nick of time- I was about to throw Ruby out the Window.  She just kept breaking stuff.  First her favorite book, then her blinds, then her new tea pot my mom got her- grrrr.  I was really pissed.  And then my energy was restored by heading out  to L A for an awesome show.  Emiliana Torrini

She is Icelandic and she is pretty bold, but in a pixie body and voice, so when she tells the audience member who keeps shouting requests at her to "shut up- My mic" It does not offend.  Geesh I wish I has that power of never offending people.
Anyway- I really love her Fisherman's Wife album, If you too are intrigued by her voice check it out, it is beautiful music.
