Last Day of Swimming Lessons

This was a great week, hardly any crying.  Because we are leaving for the reunion early tomorrow today was our last day of swim lessons... for this session.
And Look who "jumped" off the diving board.
She got to the end and bounced a little bit and had no intention of jumping off.
So Brett gave her a little help.

She has made huge strides in just two weeks.  Well worth the time and stress.

A little accident

Yesterday I was in the ER, not because of the Earthquake or because of a car crash or pregnancy problems.  I was in the ER because I cut myself while cutting an avocado.  Not smooth.  I knew it was bad because I felt the sensation that I cut through a nerve.  So I screamed and stopped the blood flow.  Ruby was strapped into her high chair waiting for the delicious avocado.  She laughed at me when I screamed- thinking I was messing aroundI called up the Schultz House hoping someone was there.  I was in luck, Amber answers the phone and before we even finish the conversation Ruth is out the door to pick me up.  She is over to my house even before I have a change to dress the wound, So she helps me.  We went to Urgent Care and they said we should go to Placentia Linda Hospital.  OH YEAH... We had both forgotten about this hidden Gem.
So Happy to not have to deal with St Jude we drove a couple block to this hospital in Yorba Linda.  Ruth was in total Go Mode she forgot to leave the Diaper bag for her 9 month old with Amber.  Ben arrived about an hour later and relieved Ruth.  I got 4 stitches and a tetanus shot.

My finger is still numb, not sure how long that will last.  Ruby saw my band aid this morning, she pointed to it and did the baby sign language for "it hurts"  or "ouch".  I was surprised that she knew I hurt myself, after she laugh at me.  So Happy to have family close by!

Swim Lessons

Ruby started Swimming lessons- and we were both unprepared for what lay ahead.  This was no "mommy and me" sissy stuff.  This was legitimate learning to swim lessons.  I thought she was too young at 19 months, but there is an 18 month old girl that kicks butt and can actually kick to the wall.

DAY 1- happy unsuspecting.  She did not cry too much.
DAY 2: Ben took Ruby and she only cried half the time.

DAY 3: Cried the whole time- she is the one second to the right with her mouth wide open crying.  The bust is that, we played in the park first before swim lessons and I could hear a kid crying and I thought to myself, "wow that kid is still crying and it is day three- that sucks" and little did I know that would also be my kid.

DAY 4: Ruby did awesome up until half way through the class when I came out from my hiding place to snap this photo and then she saw me and started to cry and did not stop till the end of class.  Brett- the instructor, was bummed on me.
She wanted out of there.  I was so proud of her for being so brave.
DAY 5: NO CRYING!   Yah for sticking with it.  Boy I really wanted to take her out of the class after day 3 of non stop crying.  But today she was so good, she was happy all the way up until the end of class, even when I came to get her she did not start crying.
Next week is another week

The Garden

Look at that big Daddy My shoe is a size 8.  I have not sliced into him yet cause I know he is not going to be as tasty as the smaller ones.
This little butternut squash surprised me.  There was no activity for the longest time and then poof there I see him.  Still small, but Im pretty excited.
Yup my pumpkins are all starting to turn orange.  So anyone wanna carve some pumpkins with me in August?  We can have a unHalloween party.
So far I have seen 6 watermelon that I am kinda excited about, but kind of not, because I think  I planted the watermelons with seeds.
So this pumpkin is my "special" one, he decided to grow half in the garden and half out of it.  So the little fence is stuck inside of his growing belly.  I am not sure how I will extract this pumpkin, but it will definitely be interesting.
The end... for now

Lake Powell

This Year Lake Powell was a blast.  Better in some ways from last year because  Ben and Cody were able to come for a few days and the Ming Family was a blast.  But also a bummer because Ruby was on the move and I was constantly having to monitor her also all the Bringhurst Family wasn't there- thus no Zip Line this year.
Ruby and my dad on the sea doo.  Ruby sure loved the Sea Doo
Captain Gail
One of the six things Ruby could do- Sleep, Eat, play with a barn set we brought, go on the sea doo,  swim, and watch Yo Gabba Gabba.
Yah for Ben coming!!!!  Ruby was so much happier when he was there.  I think she just started to get sick of me.
Cody and GF Berkeley.

I've been out of town

I will update my blog with pics and fun filled stories shortly. I just got back from Lake Powell and have a lot of Blogging catch up to do. I almost woke up my neighbors from excitement when I went out to my garden last night to see how things were going- nervous after Ben said he hadn't checked on it at all since I was gone. The pumpkins are huge and one of them is orange and the Zucchini, well one zucchini, was a foot and a half long! It looked like a huge green clown shoe.

Stay tuned for Pics

Funny Mike Rowe

Thanks to my Uncle Mike I found this on You Tube. So there are a bunch more, Infomercials that he has done... They are such a Joke. I can just imagine the people that paid to have their stuff sold on this channel, how bummed they probably are.

Youth Conference

What can I say- I feel like I may have had more fun than the kids.  It was exactly what I needed
1. Spiritually, it was amazing, felt the spirit every single day, and cried everyother day thanks to amazing speakers and pregnancy hormones
2. On a friendship level, I really connected with our Young Women's president (I am her 1st councilor) we sometimes stayed up longer than the girls chattine
3. On a leader level, I got to know the girls on another level, besides the authority level, I got to know their struggles and secrets, and what types of things interest them.

We packed so much in in so little times.
Temple Square, Conference Center Tour, Amazing speakers, and musicians, great food thanks to Sam Schultz... Cafeteria food was just that... cafeteria food.  But thank to Sam's Catering Business we got a break from the cafeteria for a few meals. At one of the Dances.  There were two.  This one was right when we pulled into town after a two hour delay due to bus trouble we arrived around 9:30.
The Bus trip home on my bus was really hilarious.  So I had no idea 17 year old boys loved Mulan (Disney Movie) as much as me.  We watched it going up once and coming back home twice and the second time everyone on the bus were standing and singing along.  It was really funny so hear deep boy voices sing the words, "Who is that girl I see staring straight back at me... when will my reflection show who I am inside"  Probably the highlight of the trip.
The second to last day of Conference was pretty hard for me, my body really needed sleep, and this was the day we did Service at the humanitarian center and toured the Prophet Cemetary Grounds.  I was really happy to be back, even though it was so much fun and it was great to see Ben and Ruby.

Just a Garden Update

The corn is huge
Yes I am an amateur gardener, so had no idea that corn would get this big.  It is now taller than me.  Corn is probably my favorite thing I planted due to it's considerate behavior, it is the only crop that has not bombarded others around it.  It grew straight up and I did not have to train it to grow a certain way.  The only bummer is that it drops it's seeds all over the place and I am a little nervous about random corn growing next season.
The Corn husks... I have no idea when to harvest corn.  So if some one could offer this advice that would be great.
Ben's Pumpkin Patch
There are five growing pumpkins so far.  I am so happy we (my mom and sister and I) pulled out those other pumpkin plants, it was just getting out of control.  the biggest pumpkin is the size of a red playground ball.  I am not sure when these bad boys are going to be ready to pick, but I have a feeling it will be before October- random... who needs pumpkins in September?
Zucchini:
Will plant more of these next year... I like these more than the yellow summer squash and have only picked three.  Three large ones, but still I want to make zucchini bread and soup out of it. Pretty intrusive, needs lots of space .
Cucumber
Do you see it?  Once I realized these guys need to climb on something and got a trellis in there, they have been a pleasure to grow.  I have harvested five already and many more to come.  One thing I have noticed about the cucumber and carrot(just below cucumber) is the flavor is not as strong as the ones you get in the store, I think it may be the soil, so next season I may follow the soil directions in Christy's Square foot Garden Book.

Naughty Tomatoes
I am thankful i only planted two tomatoes, they are so naughty they are trying to take over.  I had no idea, tomatoes were so crazy.  They are producing sooooo many Roma Tomatoes too.  I think one will be sufficient for next season.  I feel bad for the Basil plant I planted in between the tomatoes.... it is completely shaded and almost being crushed.  Was excited to see the first sign of red though.
All and all gardening has been very rewarding.  I think I will do it again, just with different soil, less of certain plants and more of the well-behaved ones.
